Step One: Hello again. This tutorial is for faces (female faces, specifically). The ball and stick figurfe is a good way to jot down your sketch. Be sure to try something that reveals most of the face. You can represent the head with a circle. The line going down shows where the nose and mouth should line up, the line going across shows approximately where the eyes should be.

Step Two: Flesh out your figure. The face can be divided into two parts - bottom and top. The top of the head can also be shown as a circle. WARNING! Don't make the circle too big, or your face will end up looking distorted. Go ahead and sketch where you want your features at this point - place the eyes, the brows, nose and mouth. Even the ear can be placed if it isn't covered by hair. In general, if you follow the lines you sketched across the face previously, you'll have a pretty good placement. If you think you're eyes are too low, simply use the line across as a guide line for the bottom of the eyes.

Step Three - Add in details! Find out how much of the face will be covered with hair and decide whether you want the eyes and eyebrows showing through. The eyes I used for this piece are open ended and slightly almond-shaped. The lashes aren't too thick or too many and there aren't a million shines or highlights. Usually, I only use a couple of highlights in the eyes, if not only one. A note about eyebrows - eyebrows are important! Many times they're represented only as lines and sometimes not at all. For a lady, the eyebrows should be thicker at the beginning then taper to a point.

Step Four - Add colour!
